$427.00

Basket in arumã fiber, made by the Baniwa Ethnic Group in the Amazon.
Arumã is a native plant in northern Brazil, primarily found in semi-flooded areas. Its use in basketry is an ancestral practice, and its management is carried out with care and responsibility to ensure sustainable harvesting. Arumã is used in its natural color and can also be dyed with natural pigments extracted from plants such as annatto and crajiru, resulting in shades of red and yellow. Black tones are achieved through soot, charcoal, and ash from ceramic kilns. The fixative varnish is extracted from trees like Ingá, among others. Through the commercialization of these pieces, it is possible to keep this cultural practice alive, value traditional knowledge, and provide a source of income for the artisans and their families.
