Indigenous Urutu Basket in Natural Fiber – Tikuna Ethnicity
For the Ticuna people, weaving and basketry are female crafts, and the production of threads from natural fibers is one of the first tasks undertaken by children and adolescents. This task, from the beginning, takes on a ritualistic expression. Men are tasked with the creation of other items such as masks, shields, and staffs.
An interesting characteristic worth noting is the wide range of natural pigments that make up the collection of the Ticuna people, with around fifteen plant species documented for dyeing threads.
